Designated Jubilee Sites in the Diocese of New Ulm

One way to receive an indulgence during this holy year is by making a pilgrimage to one of the Jubilee sites, and while there participating in one of the following:

  • Participate in a public celebration such as Mass, Rosary, Stations of the Cross, Liturgy of the Hours, prayer service, or penitential service.

  • Pray in Eucharistic adoration “for a suitable period of time” concluding with the Our Father, Creed, and invocations to Mary.

Jubilee Year of Hope Indulgences

During the Year of Hope, a special “plenary indulgence” is granted by the Church, as is the practice for all Jubilee Years.  According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, “An indulgence is obtained through the Church who, by virtue of the power of binding and loosing granted her by Christ Jesus, intervenes in favor of individual Christians and opens for them the treasury of the merits of Christ and the saints to obtain from the Father of mercies the remission of the temporal punishment due for their sins.” The Church does this not just to aid Christians, “but also to spur them to works of devotion, penance, and charity” (CCC 1478).
